For Ten Minutes, A Great Return to Rapture

I’ve avoided BioShock 2 for a while now, for two reasons: 1) I had heard from many it was quite a disappointment compared to the original (and subsequently, Infinite) because Irrational Games was not a part of the development. The other is that you cannot buy either BioShock or BioShock 2 on Steam for Mac, which has been a dealbreaker for me as contrary to what people might think, my games all run better in OS X Mavericks than on my Windows 8.1 partition I installed via Bootcamp. So, when I saw that this was 1/4 of the price I could get it for on Steam, I caved. I’m in a bad point in my life and last time I felt like this, I was able to turn to Rapture to keep myself afloat (haha). I made a note to lower my expectations for what this would be, and bought it. I played a Feral Interactive Mac port of BioShock before, although it was not purchased via the Mac App Store. Aspyr ported BioShock Infinite to Mac, playable on Steam. Both of these work flawlessly, and I come back to play them again and again. And for the first ten minutes of playing BioShock 2, it was exactly like that. I had the graphics maxed and heard hardly a whir from the fan. But as soon as I reach a loading screen, it crashes. Tried this three times now. I’m crushed, really - as much as I know this is not going to live up to its original counterpart, Rapture is a beautiful setting to explore. I am contacting Feral Interactive now, hoping for a solution, but until then… Rapture remains out of reach.

I have an issue.

Why is it that at the final part of the game going into the inner (perphone?), my computer will crash everytime? Please assist me. Overall this was a great game but it seems like I can’t finish it until my the game would stop crashing.

Great game, but would like more multiplayers

I own the Windows version of the game, and someone gifted me the OS X version on sale, and I must say that it runs more or less on par with the Windows one. I love the game, and I just wish more people would join in on the multiplayer part of it!

Crashes way too much

Consistently crashes on each new level load, 2012 Macbook Pro :c

Great

It’s great that this port exists and the game works perfectly. I love all the bioshock games and this runs great, it’s well worth it. But I can’t figure out if it’s possible to get the Bioshcok 2 DLC on this format, is that even a thing I can do?

Windowed

The game wont stay full screen for me and it makes it unplayable

Love the Game! Great playing on Macbook Pro Retina

I was on the fence about buying to play on a Mac, I had been playing the original Bioshock on Xbox360 and loved both the game and the gameplay but had some bad experience with Apple and games. My biggest concern was the new OS 10.10.1 doesnt support the xbox controller, even with the joystick mapper. I used my PS4 Dualshock controller with the Joystick Mapper app for this game and it worked great almost right out of the package, I just changed a couple buttons around and was able to play and enjoy the gameplay. The game itself is a great storyline that fills in a lot of questions you may have had from the first bioshock. I wasnt going to get Bioshock Infinite on the macbook but after playing this game on my MBP Retina I will probbaly go ahead and get the last edition to this game series! FYI - You NEED the joystick mapper to use the Dualshock controller otherwise it doest not work. The Joystick Mapper app is in the app store for about $10 I think.

Boring

Didn’t like the same stereotype Gun facing screen and you shoot on mouse click. You would have something like this a million times before.

Latest patch

I’ve been playing this game for weeks and yesterday it had a new patch. now multiplayer is disabled and my xbox controller isn’t working correctly anymore. What a joke! Thanks for breaking my game with your latest patch.

Definitely Recommend

The only regret I have is that (obviously being a mac user) I can’t seem to find anywhere for mac that has the Minervera’s Den DLC. Darn. Anyways, this is an amazing game. Ties into the first game wonderfully, and the ability to have plasmids and weapons out at the same time makes everything 8x better. I may have cried at the end of this game. A lot. I’ve played this game more than 5 times through and at this point kind of wish there was an extra hard mode, but what can you do. I don’t regret a single penny I spent on this. (Another regret is that you can’t smack a capitalist with a wrench. Go to bioshock (1) for that.) Can’t give reviews for the multiplayer, never played that.

Best update! Thanks for the new mode! Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the protector trials mode! I’m dreamed about this mode.

Thanks for the update w/DLC!…but now it crashes constantly.

I love this game! I am so glad it has been updated to include Minerva’s Den, higher graphics settings and better Xbox 360 controller support! The only thing is that it now crashes my late 2014 2.8GHz i7 MBP (still running Yosemite) quite often, which didn’t happen before the update. It’s not a huge deal breaker but a minor inconvenience. I’ve learned I need to save my game every 4-5 minutes as well as after accomplishing something significant. However, it’s a very welcome update and I already purchased Minerva’s Den!
