I’ve avoided BioShock 2 for a while now, for two reasons: 1) I had heard from many it was quite a disappointment compared to the original (and subsequently, Infinite) because Irrational Games was not a part of the development. The other is that you cannot buy either BioShock or BioShock 2 on Steam for Mac, which has been a dealbreaker for me as contrary to what people might think, my games all run better in OS X Mavericks than on my Windows 8.1 partition I installed via Bootcamp. So, when I saw that this was 1/4 of the price I could get it for on Steam, I caved. I’m in a bad point in my life and last time I felt like this, I was able to turn to Rapture to keep myself afloat (haha). I made a note to lower my expectations for what this would be, and bought it. I played a Feral Interactive Mac port of BioShock before, although it was not purchased via the Mac App Store. Aspyr ported BioShock Infinite to Mac, playable on Steam. Both of these work flawlessly, and I come back to play them again and again. And for the first ten minutes of playing BioShock 2, it was exactly like that. I had the graphics maxed and heard hardly a whir from the fan. But as soon as I reach a loading screen, it crashes. Tried this three times now. I’m crushed, really - as much as I know this is not going to live up to its original counterpart, Rapture is a beautiful setting to explore. I am contacting Feral Interactive now, hoping for a solution, but until then… Rapture remains out of reach.
